Symptoms

In Oracle EPM Planning version 11.1.2.1, in the Approvals module of both Public Sector Budgeting (PSB) and non-PSB application types, when approving or validating a Planning Unit it results in error: 'JAVA.LANG.NULLPOINTEREXCEPTION'

The issue only occurs with Planning Unit names which contain the following :

1. Comma (,)
2. Spaces in between. For eg : "APAC Forecast"

All other actions such as Promote, Delegate do not produce the error.


Cause

This issue is caused by unpublished BUG 12776890 -"TRYING TO APPROVE A PLANNING UNIT RESULTS IN: 'java.lang.nullpointerexception' "
Solution

This issue is fixed in Oracle EPM Planning version 11.1.2.1 Patch Set Update (PSU): 11.1.2.1.101, Patch Number 12666861.
