Unable to Refresh Database or Security in Hyperion Planning Desktop

Information in this document applies to any platform.
Symptoms

Unable to refresh the database or security filters in planning. And getting the following error:
"com.hyperion.planning.HspCubeRefreshInProgressException: Cannot complete your request because the database is being refreshed."
Cause

There can be a few causes for this behavior
1.When the users abnormally exit the application or planning, the application might get locked.

2. In SQL database, there will be a table called HSP_LOCK.There is one record in it which was hanging

out there.This record contains the data related to the application which is locked.
Solution

There are two possible ways to resolve a lock issue in Planning. This procedure should be done in the Planning Application database.
a.

1. Take the backup of the table HSP_LOCK before deleting the line in the table.Delete the row in HSP_LOCK.

2. Delete the record found in table called HSP_LOCK.

1.  Run the Unlock Application utility UnlockApp.exe.

2.   UnlockApp.exe file can be found in C:\Hyperion\Planning\bin
