This document details Support's preferred method for saving Windows Event Logs for use in troubleshooting your issue.Scope

Saving Windows Event Logs for Use by Oracle's Hyperion Support
To obtain an event log export:A) Windows XP, 2003
- If necessary, log into the relevant server remotely
- Run eventvwr.exe (Start > Programs > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer)
- Right-click APPLICATION (in either pane) and choose Save Log File As...
- Navigate to a convenient directory
- Enter a name for the log, e.g. <servername>_app.evt
- Ensure that the 'Save as type' menu says 'Event Log (*.evt)'
- Choose Save
- If requested by Support, repeat for the SYSTEM and SECURITY logs
- Zip the files using WinZip, 7zip etc and attach to the SR.
- If necessary, log into the relevant server remotely. Alternatively, open Event Viewer on your local PC (see step 2) and point to Action -> Connect to Another Computer... and follow the prompts
- Run eventvwr.exe (Start > All Programs > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer)
- In the left-hand pane, expand Windows Logs
- Right-click APPLICATION and point to Save All Events As...
- Navigate to a convenient directory
- Enter a name for the log, e.g. <servername>_app
- Ensure that the 'Save as type' menu says 'Event Files (*.evtx)'
- Choose Save
- If requested by Support, repeat for the SYSTEM and SECURITY logs
- Zip the files using WinZip, 7zip etc and attach to the SR.
